Grand Jersey’s general manager completes one-man triathlon to raise money for Brighter Futures
Grand Jersey’s general manager has undertaken a gruelling sports challenge as part of this year’s Wellbeing World event in order to raise much needed funds for local charity, Brighter Futures.
Eammon Elliott didn’t have a restful Bank holiday weekend, he completed three mini triathlons over the three days, swimming 2,250 metres, cycling 60km and running 30km in total and has so far raised over £1,000.
As part of the Wellbeing World Weekend, the multi-sport event, involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance events, saw Mr Elliott swimming in the pool at Grand Jersey, cycling from St Aubin to St Clement’s Coastal Road and back to Grand Jersey and running from Grand Jersey to St Aubin and back. He performed all three challenges on three days, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (5th-7th May).
Mr Elliott said of his challenge: ‘I really wanted to do something special to raise money for Brighter Futures and I came up with the idea of the three day triathlon. I’ve never competed in one before so thought why not organise my own personal challenge. I’m delighted to have raised £1,000 so far and hope that islanders will continue to donate via my Justgiving page as I’d like to increase this amount before handing the money to the charity.’
The charity works long term with the most disadvantaged Jersey families. Based at the Bridge in St Helier, they help families break the cycle of social disadvantage by uniting them, giving them life skills and refreshing their sense of value and self-worth.
Brighter Futures works with 150 to 170 families each week, all of whom are facing severe challenges. Their motto is ‘Think Family’ and the team passionately believes that with the right support, and a little belief, even the most vulnerable Jersey families can turn their lives around. By working with the main carer who then transfers their new skills to the home environment, Brighter Futures builds stronger families and stronger families will create a stronger social fabric and cohesive community spirit.
