Golf day to boost funds for Island Games golf team
At the fifth annual Island Games fundraising golf day sponsored by Standard Bank, golfers will have the chance to compare their skills against players who have been picked to represent Jersey in Bermuda in July.
Organised by the Jersey Golf Union (JGU) and the Jersey Ladies Golf Association (JLGA) the golf day will take place on Saturday 20 April 2013 at La Moye Golf Club.
A number of Island Games players will play among the 25 teams in the 18 hole stableford competition, with four players hosting a Par 3 Nearest the Pin Challenge for participants to test their skills.
Bob White of the Jersey Golf Union, said: “The annual golf day is organised to boost the funds we need to send Jersey golfers to the Island Games events which we have been attending since 1991 and the ladies since 1997 when the ladies golf was introduced into the Games. The event is very unique in that it offers the opportunity for golfers to play alongside some of our most talented Island players and in the past this has certainly made for some fun rivalry out on the course.
“This annual golf day has become the mainstay in our joint fundraising efforts and without the continued support of Standard Bank we would have an extremely difficult task on our hands. The JGU and JLGA are very grateful for their support and hope that our association will continue for many years.”
Claire Reid, Head of Marketing and Communications at Standard Bank, said: “Standard Bank is delighted to continue its support for the Jersey golf team in raising funds to travel to the Island Games in July in Bermuda. As well as sponsoring the event we also enter a couple of teams and each year we have thoroughly enjoyed this well organised event. We’re looking forward to joining in again in April.”
