On Friday 30 May, Jersey Post will be going green in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support (Jersey) – its chosen charity for 2014.
Since 2008, Macmillan Jersey has been working hard to ensure that high quality and compassionate services are available to local people affected by cancer. The charity, funded entirely by contributions, offers information, support and practical advice to anyone in need – patients, their families, friends and carers.
Since January, Jersey Post has been busy fundraising through a number of different staff-inspired initiatives. These include sponsorship of the 2014 Macmillan Cycle Challenge, staff participating in a boxing event, 203 staff donating an hour’s wages, the sale of football cards, teams competing in the Macmillan Rowathon and a sweepstake for the Grand National. To date the total already stands at over £8,000 towards the company’s £20,000 target.
Andy Jehan, Director of Postal Operations, said: “Macmillan Jersey was a favourite among our staff for this year’s charity of choice. Having had colleagues who have used the service, and knowing how many people are touched by cancer, we’re all doing as much as we can this year to reach, and exceed, this year’s fundraising target.”
To help with this, Jersey Post will be ‘going green’ this Friday. The day will include a company-wide dress down day with all staff – including our postal workers – encouraged to wear something, or even everything green, a raffle, and various cake sales at different Jersey Post sites. One member of staff has even given up email for a week to try and raise some extra money and awareness for the organisation.
Lauren Perchard-Rees, Cancer Specialist and Centre Manager at Macmillan Jersey, said; “Jersey Post is doing such a brilliant job at putting fun and energy into supporting us.
Having a ‘go green day’ is such a simple but good idea to raise some money and some awareness of our charity. We’re really enjoying working with the team at Jersey Post this year and are very grateful for their support.”
Jersey Post will continue to raise money for Macmillan Jersey throughout 2014 by entering teams in the Macmillan Corporate Golf Day on the 10 October and holding coffee mornings for Macmillan Jersey’s Greatest Coffee Morning in September. In addition, a team of eight Jersey Post employees have also been brave enough to sign up for a 10,000ft skydive over Jersey on the 7 September.
In recognition of its charity work over the past year, Jersey Post has recently been shortlisted as a finalist in the Community Enterprise Award at this year’s Jersey Enterprise awards.
