Fiscal Policy Panel member to outline Jersey’s economic outlook at IoD lunch event
One of the members of Jersey’s Fiscal Policy Panel, Marian Bell CBE, will be the guest speaker at the IoD Jersey branch lunch event this month.
At the lunch, which will take place at the Grand Jersey on Tuesday 22nd January, Marian will examine ‘The Economic and Fiscal Outlook for Jersey’.
Marian is an economics consultant and former member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England (2002 to 2005). She has held posts at The Royal Bank of Scotland, where her roles included managing the Treasury and Capital Markets Research function, and at HM Treasury where she worked on modelling and forecasting the UK economy. Among her various other interests she is vice chair of the Contemporary Dance Trust at The Place.
As one of three members of the Fiscal Policy Panel, Marian works alongside Christopher Allsopp CBE, a director of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and fellow and reader at the University of Oxford, and Chair of the Panel Joly Dixon CMG, who worked for nearly 30 years at the European Commission where he held a variety of senior posts.
The Panel provides Jersey’s Treasury and Resources Minister and States members with independent economic advice on matters relating to tax and spending policy, and the use of the Stabilisation Fund.
Steven Hunt, Chairman of the Jersey IoD Events sub-committee, said:
“As we look ahead to a new year, the road for Jersey undoubtedly remains challenging, and getting expert independent advice will be absolutely vital as businesses and the government plan for the months to come. We are delighted to welcome Marian as our first guest speaker of the year. A highly qualified expert with significant experience, her views on Jersey’s economic and fiscal position will without doubt be of significant interest to a broad cross section of Jersey’s business sector.”
The IoD lunch event is on Tuesday 22nd January at the Grand Jersey and is open to both members and non-members of the IoD. The lunch starts with drinks from 12:15pm. Tickets are £25, inclusive of drinks and a two-course lunch, wine and coffee, and can be purchased from the IoD Branch Officer, Kirsten Higgins on 610799 or jedirector@localdial.com.
