Protecting trustees, overseas property investment and selling Jersey and Guernsey funds in the UK are all under the spotlight in Collas Crill’s Spring Seminar Series; three events in both Guernsey and Jersey in March and April.
Guest speakers including “the BBC’s favourite property expert” Henry Pryor and senior figures at top UK firms will bring industry leading research and up-to-the-minute market analysis to the series hosted by partners of Collas Crill in both islands.
The seminars will be of interest to a wide variety of Island professionals: trustees and trust company officers, family offices, wealth professionals, investors, corporate service providers, entrepreneurs, lenders, fund managers, administrators and custodians.

Seminar 1: Protecting trustees in a hostile world
- Guernsey: Tuesday 18 March
- Jersey: Wednesday 19 March
Trustees are increasingly being targeted in claims by beneficiaries and third parties, their personal liability often invoked. How should trustees be protecting themselves in a hostile world?
Mark Hubbard, barrister at New Square Chambers, and Edward Stone, group partner at Collas Crill London, will review recent developments in trust litigation and what trustees should be doing to better protect themselves.
Seminar 2: UK residential property update – making bricks and mortar sweat for overseas investors
- Guernsey: Monday 31 March
- Jersey: Tuesday 1 April
The residential market is flying. London is now officially the capital of the world, with global investors continuing to choose London for their money. As prices go up, this means only good things for the regional markets, with investors looking more seriously at opportunities north of the Watford gap.
Michael Morris, group partner and head of Collas Crill’s UK Property department will chair a panel of expert speakers who will discuss:
• Market analysis of the residential sector
• Exploiting the regional market
• Foreign investment in London
• A view of the local residential property market
Adam Challis – UK Head of Research at Jones Lang LaSalle. Adam will draw on Jones Lang LaSalle’s industry leading research and the market knowledge of their business practitioners, to provide the most up-to-date view on the current and future trends.
Henry Pryor – “the BBC’s favourite property expert” is a ‘buying agent’ who sources homes for the rich and famous and for the plain hard working. Working both inside and outside London he acquires properties between £500k and £30m.
In Guernsey Swoffers director Shauna Clapham, and in Jersey Indigo Estates founder Marcus Matthews, will provide a local view on the residential property market and opportunities for investors in both islands.
Seminar 3: Selling Guernsey and Jersey funds in the UK
- Jersey: Thursday 3 April
- Guernsey: Friday 4 April
Recent developments in the UK have had a significant impact on the manner in which Jersey and Guernsey investment funds can be sold into the UK market. Elizabeth Budd, partner of Speechly Bircham, will walk delegates through the remaining exemptions for high net worth individuals and sophisticated investors, as well as discussing the concept of non-mainstream pooled investments under new FCA Rules.
In Jersey Collas Crill group partner Mark Rawlins, and in Guernsey group partner Paul Wilkes, will lead discussions on innovation in the private family fund and unregulated funds space.
Elizabeth Budd – Head of Speechly Bircham Financial Services group. She advises insurance companies and financial services providers on the impact of regulation on their businesses. Elizabeth acts for fund managers, trustees and depositaries on the structuring of authorised and unauthorised funds both onshore and offshore.
