The popular, annual Hanson Renouf/Association of Lawyers for Children conference will be held this year on Friday 3rd October at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Jersey.
The title of the conference is “Children, Health and the Law”. This conference is particularly topical in view of recent events involving Ashya King and consent to his treatment in England. The event includes sessions on consent to treatment from a medical as well as legal perspective, transition planning for young people in care with continuing health needs, safeguarding in an acute setting the Importance of GPs working with Social Services, recognising early signs of abuse & early intervention, the impact of maltreatment and parental conflict on children’s mental health and the interaction between doctors, social workers and lawyers when protecting children.
The conference will be chaired by Frances Judd QC and the keynote speech will be given by Mr Justice Hayden, an English High Court judge with experience of dealing with difficult medico-legal issues.
Specialist speakers have been drawn from a range of backgrounds in England and the Channel Islands and include: senior paediatricians, senior family and child lawyers, a psychologist, a member of an NHS trust, a member of an NSPCC advisory group, a senior social worker and a panel of local lawyers and members of the medical profession:
