CCA Galleries International are proud to support Jersey Heart Support Group’s campaign to install defibrillators in all Island schools during 2014.
JHSG says that hundreds of young people die every year in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions such as SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest) and SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome). Research by the British Heart Foundation says that the chances of survival from a sudden heart attack diminish by 10% for every minute that treatment is not given. Having a publicly accessible defibrillator could make a life or death difference for the victim.
Chairman of CCA Galleries International, Lance Trevellyan, says; ‘It is a real privilege for CCA Galleries International to be able to support the commendable work of the Jersey Heart Support Group by donating a defibrillator to Grouville School.
Acting quickly when someone is in cardiac arrest and fighting for their life is crucially important. Defibrillators are designed to be used by lay persons, and are very easy to use and equally effective. We were easily persuaded that our donation would be very much appreciated and when needed may well save someone’s life.’ Mr Trevellyan is also a Director and Trustee of the British Heart Foundation.
In the UK campaigners have been working with Government to bring in a law making it compulsory for all public places to have a defibrillator on their premises. JHSG does not believe making it a legal requirement is necessary in Jersey, and has launched its fundraising campaign to enable it to work with head teachers on a collaborative programme of installation and education.
