Tassels, titillation and titivation; The Burlesque Show, at Jersey Opera House on 3rd and 4th August, promises to be a stunning night of sophisticated tease, classic comedy, daring magic and music featuring the UK’s finest artistes of the genre.
Much talked about and yet often misunderstood, burlesque is an energetic and eccentric form of entertainment with two and a half centuries of lineage and roots in ancient Greek satire. The Burlesque Show, in its first year, draws on that history, its different eras, cultures and interpretations, and modernises it for a 21st century audience.
Kiki Kaboom is the host of the show. A multi award-winning performer and star of newly released movie ‘Burlesque Assassins’, she is an incomparable compere with witty rapport and charming vocals. She is supported by a variety of world-class acts including princess of pout Mia Merode, exquisite ‘ballerina gone bad’ Elle Amour, outrageous Fancy Chance, and incorrigible boylesquer Flixx Demontrant.
Apart from being an homage to Burlesque at its best, the two hour show offers its audiences far more than raunchy romp and has a traditional variety show quality about it. Other stars include celebrated silent comic Elan – a masterful, magical clown who performed at Paris’ Crazy Horse and Moulin Rouge, songstress Coco Malone and musical comedy genius Elliot Mason with his whimsical, bewildering and hilarious lyrics. And of course…. it wouldn’t be The Burlesque Show without a totally pre-planned ‘unexpected special guest’!
Both thoughtful and provocative, The Burlesque Show promises to be utterly hilarious, comically sexy yet enriched with playful soul. Patrons are advised to bring more than a healthy sense of humour as hearty chuckling and occasional overtly-loud guffaws are expected and, of course, encouraged.
The Burlesque Show is on at Jersey Opera House on 3rd and 4th August at 8pm. Tickets are £18 to £23 and are available online at www.jerseyoperahouse.co.uk or by calling Box Office on (01534) 511 115.
