Jersey Triathlon Club will be visited by a very important guest this coming weekend. Jack Maitland is best known as coach to British Olympic triathlon gold medalist and former world champion Alistair Brownlee and his younger brother, Olympic bronze medallist and current world champion, Jonny Brownlee. Jack was an international elite athlete himself until a few years ago and now coaches a number of quality athletes including not only the Brownlee brothers but also Non Stanford (current junior world champion) and Tom Bishop (third in the 2012 junior world championships).
Jack will run coaching sessions for junior triathletes at the FB Fields on Saturday morning and will speak to athletes at a Q&Q event hosted at Jacksons Garage in St Peters on the evening of Saturday 23 February where he will share some insight on what it takes to be an olympic and world championship winning triathlete.
Jack will also join us for the fourth event in the Jacksons Junior Duathlon Series on the morning of Sunday 24th. Club coach Dave Holmes commented “I am delighted that Jack has agreed to come over to Jersey to help support the club with its junior triathlon development programme this weekend. We have a number of qualified triathlon coaches who work hard all year round coaching junior athletes in the island, but it is a real treat to have a world renowned triathlon coach here for a couple of days and I’m sure that both athletes and coaches will be have lots to learn and will be inspired to continue in developing the junior triathlon club further.”
The club would like to thank junior triathlon sponsor Jacksons Garage and The Royal Yacht Hotel for their support in bringing Jack to Jersey and, of course, Jack Maitland for visiting Jersey to support the junior triathlon programme.
