Bedell Cristin has announced a senior appointment in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) further enhancing its services in key international markets.
Valerie Georges-Thomas is heading up the Bedell office in the BVI. She was previously a Partner at Appleby in the firm’s corporate and commercial practice group. Her appointment follows on from Bedell opening an office in Singapore in July, headed by leading BVI lawyer Stephen Adams.
Bedell’s BVI law practice, represented in Jersey, Singapore and the BVI, acts as a gateway for the flows of corporate business from China and the wider Asian region. The BVI office will also service clients in North America and the growing markets in Latin America.
Valerie advises on all aspects of structuring and formation of hedge and private equity funds and on a broad range of corporate and commercial law transactions. She has been at the forefront in advising on the new securities and regulatory legislation in the BVI and its implications. She has been included for three consecutive years as a ‘Recommended Lawyer for Investment Funds’ by PLC Which Lawyer?, is listed as a leading lawyer by International Financial Law Review and as a recommended lawyer in Chambers and Partners Global in 2009 and 2010.
Valerie is a graduate of York University, Toronto and the University of the West Indies in Barbados and was called to the Bar in Antigua and Barbuda in 1994 and in the BVI in 1996. She has 15 years’ legal experience working for prominent firms in the BVI including seven years at Appleby.
