Be Pilates relocates to dedicated studios at the Lido Medical Centre
As International Pilates Day on Saturday 5th May approaches local business Be Pilates is enjoying a move to larger, dedicated studio space at the Lido Medical Centre as demand for its services increases.
Since its launch in 2008 Be Pilates has welcomed 200 clients through its doors and over the past 12 months, in particular, founder Mirna Thomas and her team of experienced instructors have witnessed a sharp increase in demand for Pilates tuition, largely due to awareness of the health benefits of Pilates. Be Pilates sessions are conducted on specialized equipment and each session is designed to suit individuals’ needs. Not only does Pilates build core stability for the abdominal and back, it prevents fitness related injuries, increases sports performance, relieves lower back pain and re-balances symmetry in the body; it can also be an ideal exercise during pregnancy. The instructors will work mainly on a one-to-one basis with clients practicing an innovative system of mind-body exercise evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates.
Be Pilates founder Mirna Thomas gained a degree in Physiotherapy in 1996, followed by a Masters in Sports injury in 2004 and is no stranger to the importance of the body’s general health.
Mirna discovered Pilates in 1998 after a move from Brazil to the US and explains: “I first tried Pilates when I was living and working in California. At the time I had a personal trainer who started mixing weight training and Pilates together. I asked her if we could do more of the “wood machines”, as I used to call the equipment, than the weight exercises because I could feel the benefits straight away. As a physiotherapist my knowledge of movement made me feel really intrigued about how this type of exercise could be so effective. My core strength improved dramatically, and as a result of that so did my posture, my muscle tone and the whole look of my body. When I moved back to Brazil in 2001 I had an opportunity to start studying Pilates and became a certified instructor. It quickly became a passion and is now something I cannot live without. My aim now is to help as many people as possible to get their core stronger to ensure they lead healthier and enriched lives.”
On Saturday 19th May Be Pilates will hold a Demo Day for potential clients at Lido Medical Centre.
