Ambassador’s timely visit as Japanese market opens up for Jersey Dairy
Tomorrow’s visit to Jersey Dairy by the Japanese Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Mr Keiichi Hayashi, is particularly timely as the company is showcasing its products this week at one of the largest food trade shows in Japan.
Already selling its Jersey butter in the Land of the Rising Sun, Jersey Dairy is planning to grow its sales there with other products such as soft ice cream and UHT milk.
Their Japanese distributor, Takayuki Akiwa, is representing the dairy at Food Selection 2012, a huge Tokyo food fair that brings together food importers with 40 regional banks with the aim of promoting new business opportunities for the many food companies who are clients of the banks.
According to Mr Akiwa, a major Japanese confectionary chain are considering using Jersey butter in their cookies, while a Japanese dairy are already promoting their ‘Jersey Butter Powder’ (made from Jersey butter) which is used in confectionary.
In addition, Amazon.com Japan have asked if they can sell Jersey butter through their Internet shops.
Mr Hayashi will be welcomed to the Trinity dairy by Andrew Le Gallais, Chairman of the Jersey Milk Marketing Board. The Ambassador, who will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs Hiroko Hayashi, and the Embassy’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Yosuke Kawakami, will then tour the impressive new production facility and see a variety of products being prepared and packed.
