A £250K refurbishment of The Terrace at Grand Jersey gets underway
A quarter of a million pound refurbishment of The Terrace at Grand Jersey has started, which will see the stylish venue being adapted to be able to open for longer hours, more days of the year.
With stunning panoramic views across the St Aubin’s Bay, The Terrace currently features an al fresco barbeque kitchen and live entertainment throughout the summer. But the existing set up can leave guests exposed to the elements and overly dependent on favourable weather.
The overhaul will modernise and uplift the space to improve the overall customer experience in the relaxed and informal drinking and dining area. The key changes are the raising of the height of the outer glass, to protect guests from the wind, and moving the bar to the centre of The Terrace, to create a focal point to the area. The work will also include adding four giant ‘jumbrellas’ to provide heat and light, and also new furniture and flooring throughout.
The work is being carried out by a number of Jersey-based companies. ROK Construction is the main contractor, a dynamic and innovative chartered builders with many years of experience and proven expertise. AXIS-Mason is the project’s architect, the designers behind the new creative layout, and T&G Hill is the commissioned structural engineering company.
Eamonn Elliott, general manager at Grand Jersey, commented ‘We are very excited by the changes taking place. The external elements have proved a real challenge to us in The Terrace’s current design, and changeable conditions have often impacted on our guests. The development means there will be more of an opportunity to have The Terrace open for longer and more often.’ He continued ‘It was crucial to us to use the best companies available locally and keep the project ‘on-island’. I am very grateful for the excellent work being undertaken and can’t wait to see it finished.’
Car parking spaces will be limited whilst the works are undertaken, but no spaces will be permanently lost. Weather permitting, the new look terrace should be complete and open by mid-April.
