Mark Bright and Geoff Thomas, ex English professional footballers, were in Jersey recently with the aim of raising awareness of blood cancer diseases across the island and the work that the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research charity does locally in Jersey.
They were participating in the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research golf day, which was sponsored by Airtel-Vodafone and raised £16,000.
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research Jersey Branch Chairman Christine Rowland said: “I am absolutely delighted with the success of the golf day and grateful to both Mark Bright and Geoff Thomas for lending their support and getting involved in our fund raising efforts. We are also thankful to Airtel-Vodafone for all their support which helped make this day possible. We have challenging fund raising targets to meet and the money raised will go towards helping us to achieve those targets.”
The winning team was Spearpoint Retirement with a score of 95 points. Team Appleby made second place with 86 points, only one extra point over team Bank Santander who took third place with 85 points.
Airtel-Vodafone Director and CEO Mr Vinod Sud, said: ” We are committed to helping raise awareness of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, our chosen charity for 2012/13. I’m thrilled that so much money was raised for this worthy cause which will ultimately go towards beating blood cancers.”
