‘Get Your Kit On’ for Cancer Research UK
Jersey News, 2 March 2010 –
The Jersey committee for Cancer Research UK is calling for boys and men to get their chosen football kit on and participate in the World Cup Men’s Fun Run.
Supported by Horizon Group, the 5KM event has been organised to celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2010 and will take place in Jersey on Sunday 6th June at 10AM. The event will start at Les Jardins De La Mer along to Bel Royal and back and participants are welcome to run or walk the course.
Robert Christensen, Chairman Cancer Research UK Jersey said: “Following the success of Run for Moore which we have organised in Jersey for the past four years, we decided in the year of a World Cup to get men and boys involved in a football themed fun run.
We are asking them to wear their favourite football strip to demonstrate their support in the FIFA World Cup event and to raise funds for the charity by challenging them to run or walk the 5KM course. Last year over 300 supported us with this event; we aim to build numbers to 500 this year. This event is being organised on the same day as our Race for Life, a similar event for ladies and girls. We hope that families will see this as an opportunity for all members to come along and support each other, whilst helping to raise money for the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We are grateful to Horizon Group for once again supporting this event.”
Andy Treharne, Chief Operating Officer, Horizon Group, said: “The World Cup Men’s Fun Run is a brilliant opportunity for fathers, grandfathers, sons, uncles and nephews to get together, have fun and raise money for Cancer Research UK Jersey. A team from Horizon Group will be entering and I’d like to encourage as many men as possible to take up the challenge. At Horizon, we’re once again very pleased to be supporting such a worthwhile event in order to raise funds for this important cause.”
Teams and individuals are asked to register in advance and can do so by downloading a registration form from the Cancer Research UK Jersey website (www.cancerresearchukjersey.org), also found via the Jersey Committee’s Facebook page, or by calling Michelle Donnelly on 07797 813522. Registration is £10 per person and participants are encouraged to raise additional funds.
Regrettably, registration on the day will not be possible.
Bootcamp Jersey will be supporting the event by offering a number of practice sessions in advance of the event and by conducting a warm up on the day.
